Open and Edit an offline registry

Sometimes it happens, that you would like to open and edit a registry entry on a "dead" (not running) system. Of course the disk where the system is stored on, must be accessible.
Luck for you if you have a Live CD.

Firts boot the live system and check if you can access the disk with the not running system on it.

Open "regedit" or "regedt32" its up to you what you prefer by Start/run

Move to HKLM and let it marked

Click "File" and choose "Load Hive"

Browse on the disk with the not running system to "..\windows\system32\config"
in this example, lets open the "system" Hive

Type in a meaningful name for this Hive

The Hive is loaded now into the current Registry
now you can browse this Hive, add/delete/edit everything you want

To save your work, make sure the offline Hive is marked, then on the Filemenu choose "Unload Hive"
