How to reset a lost password.
Sometimes it happens... you cannot logon to your
PC/Server because somebody has changed
the users password and left the company whitout telling it or writing down.
Instaead of trying some password hacking tools, it much more easy just to reset
the password.
To do this, there are several tools. One of them I have
implemented onto my XP-Live CD.
Take a look at the following screenshot to see how easy this is.
Of course, you must have physical access to the PC/Server where you want to reset a password.
Boot the PC/Server with XP-Live
Run Start/Programs/Winternals ERD Commander 2003/Set ERD
Target Root
Browse to the windows system root on the disk where the
locked windows is installed on
Start the "locksmith" tool
Click next on the locksmith wizard
Choose the account you want to reset the password,
type in the new password and click next
Click finish, reboot the PC/Server and logon as user with
the reseted password
